You may enroll your child prior to submitting an immunization record. A record is required before the student can attend school.

If your child has not had an Early Childhood Screening yet, please contact the ONE91 Community Education staff at 952-707-4117 to schedule an appointment or complete the online request form. The Kindergarten enrollment forms can be submitted before the screening is completed. Please submit a copy of the screening to the Enrollment Center. If the screening was done in another district, then complete the Consent to Release Educational Data form and submit it to the Enrollment Center and staff will request it on your behalf.

Initial admission to kindergarten shall be solely on the basis of chronological age, except in special cases. The goal of this policy is to give consideration for early entrance to children who have missed the birth date cut-off by two months or less (Sept. 2 through Oct. 31), and who demonstrate superior potential readiness in intellectual, social, emotional and physical areas.

In cases where parents request early admission to kindergarten, the procedure will be as follows:

• Direct any questions about early admission to the building principal. Use SchoolSearch to search for your neighborhood school, or contact the Enrollment Center at 952-707-4180.
• Prior to applying for early entrance to kindergarten, each child must complete Early Childhood Screening.
• Parents should fill out the Kindergarten Early Entrance application form and give it to their building principal. Applications must be submitted between Jan. 1 and May 1 to the fall of requested enrollment.
• Upon receipt of the Kindergarten Early Entrance application form, the principal will forward the application to the coordinator for advanced learning services to determine if the child fits the eligibility to be assessed for early entrance.
• Parents will be notified by May 5 if their child does or does not meet the criteria for early entrance.
• If the child does meet the criteria, parents will be contacted by the coordinator for advanced learning services to schedule academic, social and behavioral screening. Non-residents will be charged a fee for the assessment.
• Data will be reviewed by a team including the school psychologist, coordinator for advanced learning services, and building principal.  Parents will be informed in writing of the decision no later than June 15.   

District 191 follows its Variance Policy (#509.5), which means:

• All current variances would continue into next year and future years, if the family chooses to do so, and 
• Students transitioning from elementary to middle school would have to apply for a variance, if desired.

In addition, the selection priorities for variance applications as follows:

• Siblings of enrolled students
• Children of staff working at that location
• Needs based on daycare location

If there are more applicants than spaces available, a lottery process will be used to decide which applications are approved. The lottery will take place on the 5th of each month.
